I am a Musician, Guitarist, Artist, Author, Percussionist, Composer, Music Producer, Recording Engineer, Painter, Designer, Photographer, Sculptor, and Colorist. I have been playing the guitar for 35 years. I dedicated 20 years of that time being a serious artist, painter, and colorist. When I got my hands on the 8 string guitar and its 1.5 inch of extra scale length . . . I won't say light bulbs went off, rather I was struck by lightning and have not put the guitar down since. It was made for people with big hands and fingers. I have composed some 4+ hours of music that I am in the process of recording and will present these works as they are finished.
The process of creating a painting and creating a piece of music share more similarities than differences. In painting your "canvas" is exactly that, a canvas and your medium is colored goo. In the creation of music, particularly when working with recording software, your canvas is duration and your medium is sound. The same tools are used to create evaluate and complete the work . . . balance, contrast, color, theme, dance, performance, play, interest, humor, light, shadow, harmony, dissonance, surprise, tension, completion, etc. etc. All the elements work together to form a cohesive whole, and if there is the rare alignment of stars as well, it can become a great work that moves us beyond words.
I have created instrumental guitar music using the mighty 8 string electric guitar. This recording was made with 5 Triple Rectifiers resulting in a sound that is tough, clear, and muscular. It is also sweet, melodic, and symphonic, backed up by a relentless four on the floor beat that will get you up and moving.
The instrumentation is simple . . .
Lead Guitar - Rhythm Guitar - Bass Guitar - Drums - Percussion
I am excited to share with you this piece and the many more that will follow as I can record and produce them.
This is by far my proudest work and greatest creation.
Sincerely,
Derek Leka
